Curious about me?

Hello! I’m an advertising student at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI – Go Green! It took me what seemed like forever to finally settle down on a major, but I’m quite pleased with my decision. I’ve always loved art, design, color, and typography, as well as music, film, and photography (and, of course, cats.) When I was a little girl, I would sit at the family computer after school for hours playing in Paint or Tessellmania, a tessellation program my Daddy installed for me. As I grew up, I ventured into Photoshop, creating mock magazine covers and exploring photo editing. Now, I’m an avid user of the whole Adobe Suite.

But, you can’t forget about traditional means of design – a pen and a piece of paper. Or, a can of spray paint and cardboard. Technology has made almost everything easier, and despite my deep love and appreciation for Illustrator, I still find myself cutting things out of magazines and drawing pictures with crayons while listening to Frightened Rabbit or Alexi Murdoch under the Christmas lights in my room.

My goal for this blog is to explore creativity and innovation through my own work and other’s, as well as deem it a dumping ground for my random and sometimes irrelevant thoughts, ideas, and musings.

Here are a few (?) things that I’m especially keen about (as I’m sure will become apparent through my blogging): animals (specifically cats), coffee & tea, the Settlers of Catan, euchre, any film with Meryl Streep and/or Robert Redford, folk & indie music, driving, DIY projects, biking, art fairs, baking cupcakes with hidden treasures inside, naps, science experiments, live music, cheese, Wes Anderson films, Helvetica, travel, speaking German, reading, breaking stereotypes, and social equality.
